RULES & REGULATIONS
1. INTRODUCTION
The Penang Wifi Treasure Hunt 2007 is promoted and organized as part of the Penang Pilot Broadband Project by the Penang & Kulim Broadband Stakeholders Group under the auspices of the Penang state government and the Ministry of Energy Water and Communications.
The event shall start from Esplanade, on Sunday 20 January 2008 at 9.00 am sharp with all cars to be flagged off by the Chief Minister of Penang, and finish at Bayview Beach Hotel, Batu Feringghi, on the same day at approximately 3.30-4.00pm. A total of seven locations is included. Other than the first location (Esplanade) and the final location (Bayview Beach Hotel) , every participant is allowed use their own judgement to choose his/her own route in between so long as the participant is able to complete all seven locations. Points will be awarded based upon the following:-
Anyone taking more than 9 hours to complete will be considered to finish within 9 hours. In addition to the Wi-Fi treasure hunt, the event shall include a prize presentation dinner at XX hotel, Saturday 20 January 2008.
2. ENTRY
Open to all. All intending participants may register using the entry form attached – available of the website
Entries must be accompanied by the relevant entry fees upon submission of RM200 per car.
The official closing date is xx December 2007.
Entry Fee: RM200 per person.
All cheque payments for the ICT Wi-Fi treasure hunt are to be crossed and made payable to “xxxxxxx”.
Each team will need the following:
A laptop or portable device that can scan for wireless networks.
A program like Netstumbler (or similar), that can scan for wireless networks.
Backup power and car charger accessories for Laptop or portable device would be an advantage.
An external aerial with pigtail that connects to your portable device (optional). This will make finding wireless networks easier.
Vehicles must be currently taxed and insured for public road use. Drivers of participating vehicles must produce their valid driving license at Registration.
3. MINIMUM/MAXIMUM PERSONS PER ENTRY
A minimum of 2 (two) persons (Driver and Navigator) and a maximum of 4 (four) adults are permitted in a car. Each car, with a minimum of two and a maximum of four individuals, is considered as one participant.
4. ELIGIBLE VEHICLES
All vehicles that are in the classification of sedans, sports cars, 4WDs, SUVs, private use vans, and twin- cab 4WDs, with the exception of commercial vehicles, lorries, buses and motorcycles, are eligible to be entered for the event.
All vehicles must comply with the Road Traffic Ordinance and be individually taxed for public roads. Participating vehicles may not be driven using any form of trade plate. An entrant is deemed to have full knowledge of his/her vehicle and to vouch for its eligibility prior to the starting time. It is recommended that the vehicle be fitted with a Trip Meter (Odometer) with readings in Kilometers which can be ‘zeroed’ (this is usually a standard attachment) on the speedometer. Safety items such as spare car keys, torch lights, etc., are recommended to be carried in the vehicle.
5. INSURANCE AND INDEMNITIES
The organizers and Sponsors decline liability in any losses or damages or accidents caused to participants’ vehicles and/or personal belongings during the course of the event. The Organizers and Sponsors also decline responsibility for any bodily injuries and/or accidents and/or death or breach of any laws and regulations.
Participants shall be entirely responsible for any injuries, damages, losses, accident or breach of laws in which liability may arise and shall indemnify the Organizers and Sponsors in regard to any such liability. An entrant shall have no claim against the Organizers and Sponsors, the Federal and State Governments of Malaysia, their respective officials, their servants, their representatives and agents. Drivers must have a valid motor insurance policy covering them against Third Party Liability. Entrants, Drivers, Navigators and passengers must sign the Declaration Form attached to the entry form.
6. RIGHTS OF ORGANIZERS
The Organizers may at their discretion:
· Refuse any entry or bar any vehicle that is not safe.
· Abandon, cancel or postpone the event, and no claim of any kind arising from any possible such action shall be entertained.
· Protests of any kind will not be entertained under any circumstances.
7. ROUTE
The route shall start from Esplanade, at 9.00am, and finish at Bayview Beach Hotel, Batu Feringghi, on the same day at approximately 3.30-4.00pm. There shall be no prescribed routes so long as all participants reach the finishing line at Bayview Beach Hotel as the final location. All 7 locations must be covered otherwise the participant will be disqualified.

9. SUBMISSION OF ANSWER SHEETS AND TREASURES
A Treasure Hunt manuscript shall be given to each participant containing all answer sheets which participants must answer and place into separate plastic bags. All answers are to be filled in ink, and are to be submitted together with the required “Treasures” to the Organizers’ officials at the Finish Control before the scheduled time of finish. ‘Treasures’ are to be properly placed in plastic bags and clearly marked. All ‘Treasures’ submitted are not refundable/ returnable.
10. REGISTRATION & BRIEFING
Registration for the event shall open forthwith, and interested parties are to register their entry using the entry form provided. For the event briefing, participants are advised to come on time to collect their ‘goodie’ bags, and competition number stickers.
AT LEAST ONE PERSON, EITHER THE DRIVER OR NAVIGATOR, MUST ATTEND THE BRIEFING.
We strongly recommend that all members of the team attend the special training on ‘how to navigate and win at Wi-Fi Treasure hunts’, given by the Huntmaster.
